The Surprising Power of a Genuine Network
One
random evening on Facebook, I surprisingly reconnected with my PG senior after
nearly a decade. And the funny twist? The same kind of reunion happened again. Sometimes, social media behaves like a reunion planner —
popping people back into our lives exactly when we least expect it.
But
this time, the surprise didn’t come from Facebook. It came from the most
professional, straight-faced platform of all — LinkedIn. Yes, the place
where everyone starts messages with “Hope you are doing well” and ends
them with “Looking forward to connecting.”
For
the past six months, I’ve been quietly active on LinkedIn — nothing dramatic,
no adding random strangers, no adding relatives who might suddenly ask for free
design work. I kept it simple:
✔️ Former team members who
became friends beyond work
✔️ My colleagues
✔️ A few people in my actual
professional circle
That’s
it. No adventurous networking, no complicated circles.
So
imagine my surprise when one fine morning, a normal notification suddenly felt…
different.
I opened it casually — and boom, there was my brother.
Listed under “People you may know.” With a 3rd-degree connection.
The
funny part? My brother has been working in Chennai for nearly 20 years. He
doesn’t know my colleagues. He doesn’t know my network. He definitely has no
idea about the small professional circle I built here.
Yet
somehow, LinkedIn’s invisible web reached him.
That’s
when it hit me: This is the real power of networking.
Not
forced.
Not
noisy.
Not
“add everyone you see.”
But
a simple, genuine network that slowly grows — and naturally reaches the right
people.
Before starting a business,
career, or even a new phase of life… Build the right network.
Because when the foundation is right, the connections will find their way to
you — even the unexpected ones.
🛜 “Quality over quantity: Focus on
meaningful connections rather than adding everyone.”
